Two articles Published in All at Sea Magazine, December 2017

All At Sea Caribbean magazine cover, December 2017.

Two of my articles were published in the recent edition of All at Sea magazine. I will give you a link to both articles, starting with “Family Cruising – The Joys of Choosing Crew,” as it was listed on the front cover.

1. Family Cruising – The Joys of Choosing Crew

The magazine includes some nice pictures, including an action shot of our extended family – Rick, Braden, Findlay and Jorja Armstrong.

2. Cruisers Gather at Dawn: Market Day in Port of Spain, Trinidad

This article is immersive in that it takes you from the boatyard to the sights and smells of the market in Port of Spain. I include a picture of a man selling pig snouts and pig tails. Chicken feet are sold in the Caribbean by the pound. At first, I was grossed out. Now, I am completely unfazed. But, pig snout and tails? That’s something!

  1. Hi. Writing from St Thomas. Saw the magazine piece. Very adventuresom. I spent several years, 60-62 on a 48 ft Aden yawl. Four kids, the dog and mom and dad. Best years of my life.

We own an Aphrodite sloop, Averisera, which is the opposite of you’d boat.

    Have fun.

  2. We very much enjoyed your article about choosing crew. It gave us a lot to think about. My family and I (7 of us) are planning to head out cruising this summer and like the St. Francis 50 very much.

I wonder if we could email you and bounce questions about the boat and anything you would do differently on refit?

Thanks for continuing to write your blog. We love keeping updated on your travels.

    • Im glad you enjoyed the article. I would be happy to talk to you about our boat. We have been very happy with Aphrodite. Our cockpit enclosure was a very good investment both in terms of creature comforts but also as a visual reminder to our kids that they need to wear their life jackets as we sail.
