Now watching in real-time: Mount Gay Rum Round Barbados Race

I am having fun this afternoon watching the Mount Gay Rum Round Barbados Race in real-time using the YB Tracking Race Viewer app. It takes my mind off the cold weather we are having here in Ottawa, although it is quite sunny.

As part of his training for our trip, my husband is sailing this race on the SV Spirit of Juno this week. Here is a screen capture I just took on my iPhone that shows his current co-ordinates:

The YB Tracking Race Viewer app can show you the position of the boat you are following, relative to everyone else in a race. It looks something like this:

I’m new at this – in this screenshot, I guess the SV Spirit of Juno is tacking? Zoomed out, you can see the whole race and the island of Barbados. It looks like this:

If you’re interested, you can view the race yourself. The Facebook page for the Mount Gay Rum Round Barbados Race provides photos as well as details as to how to get the YB Tracking Race Viewer app, which is what I am using.

My husband took this picture in Barbados yesterday. Look at the colour of that water! Wouldn’t it be nice?
