In short
We left Suva, Fiji a couple of days ago and are sailing to Port Vila, Vanuatu. I wrote this at the helm while looking at our PredictWind tracking page, where colours show wind speed and little white streaks show wind direction. The winds trend west, working in our favour as they did for sailors, explorers and traders of yore. Going back east would be like climbing an escalator in reverse. Our live tracking page always shows where we are now.
We left Suva, Fiji a couple of days ago. We are now on our way to Port Vila, Vanuatu. The SV Aphrodite PredictWind tracking page looks like this, as I write from the helm, while sailing from Fiji to Vanuatu.
The colors indicate wind speed and the little white streaks look like snowballs that show wind direction.
The white streaks are working in our favour, just as they have for other sailors, explorers and traders of yore. As you can see, the winds are generally trending west.
To go back east is possible but it would be like climbing an escalator in reverse. Or, going up a toboggan hill while being pelted with snowballs. In short, the wind and the waves would tend to work against us.
